5G Advanced Holds Transformative Potential for Key Sectors in Malaysia: Fahmi

Kuala lumpur: The adoption of 5G Advanced, or Ultra 5G, technology offers significant potential to drive transformation across key sectors in Malaysia, including agriculture, retail, and healthcare, said Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil. He emphasized that the technology, which incorporates artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics, is poised to enhance productivity and operational efficiency across these industries.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi remarked on the substantial opportunities presented by Ultra 5G technology. He highlighted its potential applications, such as reducing congestion in hospital wards and easing the workload of nurses, as well as boosting productivity in oil palm plantations. These advancements were discussed during the launch of the U Mobile Enterprise Innovation Platform Hub.

In the retail sector, Fahmi noted that Ultra 5G's advanced data analytics capabilities could revolutionize inventory management and provide businesses with deeper insights into consumer trends. This technological leap could lead to more efficient operations and improved customer satisfaction.

Fahmi further mentioned the innovative use of drones powered by 5G networks for security surveillance, particularly along Malaysia's borders. He pointed out that in some areas, 5G connectivity is already being utilized to support drone operations for monitoring purposes, including border surveillance.

He called on relevant agencies, such as the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), to consider the feasibility of implementing this technology. Fahmi assured that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is prepared to collaborate with pertinent ministries, including the Home Ministry, to enhance internet coverage in border areas, thereby facilitating the deployment of such surveillance technologies.

5G Advanced, also referred to as Ultra 5G, represents the latest evolution of fifth-generation mobile networks, operating on a 5G Standalone (SA) architecture. This technology promises enterprise-grade connectivity characterized by ultra-low latency, network slicing capabilities, doubled capacity, and enhanced AI-powered security compared to earlier-generation 5G networks.
