6,832 Graduates To Receive Scrolls At UUM’s 38th Convocation Ceremony

Sintok: A total of 6,832 graduates will receive their scrolls at Universiti Utara Malaysia's (UUM) 38th Convocation Ceremony, to be held from Nov 9 to 13 at the Mu'adzam Shah Hall, UUM, in Sintok.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, UUM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan stated that out of the total graduates, 5,575 will be awarded bachelor's degree scrolls. Meanwhile, 1,241 postgraduate students will be conferred Doctor of Philosophy, Doctor of Management, Doctor of Business Administration, and master's degree scrolls. Furthermore, sixteen graduates will receive the Executive Diploma in Business Management, and 1,339 bachelor's degree recipients have achieved first-class honours.

The ceremony will include 6,391 local graduates and 441 international graduates. The international cohort is comprised of 164 graduates from Indonesia, 109 from China, 36 from Pakistan, 23 from Saudi Arabia, 21 from Nigeria, 18 from Somalia, 17 from Iraq, and 53 from other nations. Additionally, UUM will confer degrees on 137 first graduates from three new programs: the Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics and Information Technology with Honours, the Bachelor of Arts in Contemporary Literature and Creative Industry Management with Honours, and the Bachelor of Applied History with Honours.

Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan also announced that an Honorary Doctorate of Philosophy in Islamic Business Management will be bestowed on International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF) University chairman Tan Sri Azman Mokhtar. This brings the total number of honorary doctorate recipients to 55 since UUM's first convocation ceremony in 1988.

In addition to the academic awards, the Royal Education Award recipient will receive RM7,500 in cash along with a certificate, while the Chancellor's Gold Medal Award recipient will be awarded RM4,000 in cash and a certificate. The Sultan of Kedah, Al-Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah, has consented to officiate the opening session of the convocation ceremony and will present the degree scrolls to the graduates.

In conjunction with the convocation, UUM is also organising a Convocation Festival (PESKON38), scheduled from Nov 6 to 14, with the theme 'Keusahawanan Pemacu Kebitaraan Graduan'.
