78 Individuals Serve Community Service for Littering Offences Across Six States

Kuala lumpur: A total of 78 individuals underwent Community Service Orders (CSOs) for minor littering offences in six states yesterday, said Minister of Housing and Local Government, Nga Kor Ming. He announced that the operations were conducted simultaneously in Perlis, Kedah, the Federal Territories, Pahang, Negeri Sembilan, and Johor.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, these CSOs are part of an integrated enforcement strategy aimed at curbing littering in public spaces. The minister emphasized the importance of comprehensive cleaning efforts, which include sidewalks, public roads, drainage systems, public toilets, and beaches. Nga stressed that unchecked minor littering can lead to clogged drains, inconvenience local communities, and potentially trigger flash floods in urban areas.

Nga urged the public to refrain from carelessly discarding cigarette butts, tissues, or drink cans, highlighting that such acts not only harm the environment but also tarnish the country's image. In efforts to combat littering, the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp) has already issued 1,342 Offence Notification Notices across seven states. These notices have involved 1,058 Malaysians and 284 foreigners to date.
