Kuala lumpur: A total of 80,672 units of Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR), valued at RM6 billion, have been built nationwide since the housing scheme was introduced in 2002, said Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) secretary-general Datuk Dr M Noor Azman Taib. Of these, 79,260 RMR units have been completed, while 1,422 units are still under construction.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Kelantan leads in RMR implementations with 12,156 units completed and 57 units under construction. This is followed by Terengganu with 10,286 completed and 154 ongoing, and Johor with 8,794 completed and 145 in progress. M Noor Azman highlighted that the RMR scheme is designed to assist the target group in owning homes, forming part of the National Housing Policy aimed at increasing people's access and ability to own property.
The houses, priced at RM90,000, feature three bedrooms and two bathrooms within a 750 square feet area. The government provides a RM20,000 subsidy, leaving the remaining RM70,000 as an interest-free loan repayable over 17 years. M Noor Azman made these remarks during the key handover and offer letter ceremony for the Terengganu RMR at Dewan Ehsan, Felda Wilayah Timur.
In the Kuala Nerus parliamentary constituency, SPNB has received 1,077 applications since 2002, with 837 housing units completed and handed over. This year, seven units are currently being implemented, while another 200 are on the waiting list. For the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary constituency, SPNB has received 818 applications, completing and handing over 723 units, with 16 units currently under construction and another 270 on the waiting list.
Muhammad Faiz Haikal Mohd Lazim, an RMR recipient, expressed gratitude for his application's approval last year. After submitting two applications, including one in 2023, the 33-year-old stated that his house is completed and awaiting utility connections before he and his family can move in. Currently living with his mother in a house shared by 12 people since 2018, he hopes to relocate to his new home soon.
