Kuala lumpur: Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations became more meaningful for 80 Persons with Disabilities (PwD) recipients, including children, when they were brought to shop for new Raya outfits by Nasmir Holding Sdn Bhd through Yayasan Al Nasmir at a supermarket here today.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, all recipients, accompanied by their respective family members, appeared cheerful and excited as they were able to personally choose the clothing they would wear on the morning of Aidilfitri. Visually impaired recipient Nur Laily Adi Mesra, 32, mentioned that the opportunity to shop physically offered a more meaningful experience compared with her usual practice of making online purchases with the help of family members.
Nur Laily expressed that it was enjoyable to choose her own clothes, with the ability to touch and feel the fabric before making a purchase. She usually relies on her family members to buy clothes based on the color or design she specifies. She added that this year was even more delightful because she and her visually impaired husband could wear matching outfits, making the celebration more special.
Nur Laily, who has been blind and physically disabled since birth, said the contribution also helped ease the burden of preparing for the festive season. She expressed appreciation to the supermarket staff who assisted her in selecting the clothing.
Visually impaired couple Abu Hasan Mahmud, 46, and Nur Emida Robi, 38, described the contribution as very meaningful. They no longer need to worry about expenses for Raya outfits this year, including for their only son, Muhammad Arif Haikal, 13. Abu Hasan, who sells plastic goods at night markets, stated that this contribution allows them to save on expenses and use the extra money for other preparations such as buying festive cookies and other necessities for Aidilfitri.
Meanwhile, Nasmir Holding managing director Datuk Kadhar Shah Abdul Razak said the annual programme aims to bring joy to underprivileged families. Contributions were also extended to accompanying family members and teachers. He mentioned that the participants are free to choose any clothing they like, and this year, the program aims to assist 2,800 individuals while also organizing iftar events at 72 mosques.
