Ipoh: About 80,000 individuals have benefited from the Housing Credit Guarantee Scheme (SJKP) to date, helping more Malaysians own their first homes, with a target of reaching 100,000 beneficiaries by the end of this year. Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming revealed that the government has allocated and guaranteed a total of RM40 billion for the initiative, marking the highest amount allocated to date.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Minister Nga emphasized the scheme's focus on assisting those without fixed incomes, including gig workers, in achieving home ownership. He made these remarks after closing the Perak MADANI Rakyat (PMR) 2026 programme at Bulatan Sultan Azlan Shah. Addressing concerns over rising construction costs amid the global energy crisis, Nga mentioned that the ministry, through the National Housing Department, is actively seeking solutions to keep overall costs manageable.
The minister urged construction industry players not to exploit the situation, highlighting that the crisis is a global issue affecting countries worldwide, including Malaysia. In his speech, Nga reaffirmed the ministry's commitment to maintaining stable, affordable housing prices despite ongoing economic pressures.
Furthermore, he assured that the ministry is closely monitoring ongoing housing projects to ensure they are not disrupted or delayed due to the current challenges.
