974 Workplace Accident Cases Reported In Perak In 2024 – Exco

Perak: The Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) of Perak reports a total of 974 workplace accident cases recorded throughout 2024. State Human Resource, Health, Indian Community Affairs and National Integration Committee chairman A. Sivanesan highlighted that of these cases, 915 involved temporary disability, 29 were cases of permanent disability, 27 were categorized as dangerous incidents, and 15 resulted in fatalities.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, as of March this year, 296 workplace accident cases have been reported to the Perak DOSH. These include 283 cases of temporary disability, six dangerous incidents, three cases of permanent disability, and four fatalities. Sivanesan shared these details during a media conference after launching the state-level 2025 World Day for Safety and Health at Work and the Systematic Occupational Health Enhancement Level Programme (SOHELP) engagement session at a leading hotel.

Sivanesan further stated that in the segment of diseases and poisoning, 458 cases were reported throughout last year, with the manufacturing sector witnessing the highest number of hearing loss cases. Up to March this year, 158 occupational disease cases have been reported, indicating the need for comprehensive and consistent improvements.

Additionally, 25 workplace accident cases have been subjected to legal action in court, resulting in fines totaling RM324,400. This action reflects DOSH's commitment to ensuring compliance with laws and regulations across all industry levels.

In another update, Sivanesan noted that 10,460 elderly individuals in the state had completed receiving the influenza vaccine as of April 24. Those aged 60 and above who have not yet received the vaccination can schedule an appointment through the MySejahtera application. For those not eligible for the program, the vaccine is available at private clinics or hospitals.
