Paris: Former world champions Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik demonstrated their prowess by overcoming fellow Malaysians Wan Arif Wan Junaidi and Yap Roy King to secure a place in the quarter-finals of the 2025 World Championships in Paris. The match, held on Thursday at the Adidas Arena, showcased the resilience and skill of Malaysia's top men's doubles pair. According to BERNAMA News Agency, Aaron-Wooi Yik faced a challenging start, losing the first set 18-21. However, the second-seeded pair made a strong comeback, winning the second set 21-18, which forced the game into a decisive third set. The final set was a nail-biting encounter, with both pairs tied at 24-24. Aaron-Wooi Yik ultimately held their composure to clinch the set 26-24, concluding an intense hour-long match. The duo, who won the 2022 edition, are now set to face either ninth seeds Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty from India or sixth seeds and Paris 2024 silver medallists, Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang from China, in the quarter-finals scheduled for Friday. In other matches, Malaysia's top women's doubles pair, Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah, advanced effortlessly to the next round with a convincing 21-12, 21-11 victory over Indonesia's Lanny Tria Mayangsari and Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti. The match lasted only 29 minutes. Pearly and Thinaah will compete against either the Stoeva sisters, Gabriela and Stefani from Bulgaria, or Japan's Yuki Fukushima and Mayu Matsumoto for a place in the semi-finals.
