Abang Jo Urges Sarawak Local Authority Councillors To Embrace New Ideas

Kuching: Councillors of Local authorities (PBT) across Sarawak have been asked to be open to accepting new ideas and perspectives in addressing the challenges faced by today's world.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg emphasized that while basic infrastructure sufficed for urban areas in the past, contemporary urban planning demands consideration of additional factors. Abang Johari, commonly referred to as Abang Jo, highlighted the importance of integrating elements such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to maintain a balance between development and environmental sustainability.

He noted the necessity for a shift in approach from previous practices. He remarked that in the past, the focus was on establishing good roads, electricity, and water supplies, but current times require more comprehensive strategies. Abang Jo pointed out the growing concern over vehicle emissions, which were once not seen as a significant issue but have now escalated into a pressing problem due to greenhouse gas emissions.

Abang Jo delivered these remarks during the 2025 Seminar for Councillors of Local Authorities, urging local councils to prioritize sustainable practices in their urban development plans.
