Abdul Halim’s Appointment as MACC Chief A Fitting Choice – PM Anwar

Kuala lumpur: The appointment of former High Court judge Datuk Seri Abdul Halim Aman as the new Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner is being hailed as a fitting choice to lead the agency. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim commented on the suitability of Abdul Halim for the role, citing his judicial background and lack of involvement in major business interests or political parties as key factors.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Prime Minister Anwar stated that Abdul Halim is well-suited to lead MACC and enhance its capabilities. The Prime Minister revealed that discussions had been held with His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, regarding the appointment of Abdul Halim to a two-year term. This announcement was made during a ceremony where the National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI) was recognized by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) as an International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Digital Transformation Centre at NADI Kubang Semang.

Prime Minister Anwar also expressed appreciation for the outgoing Chief Commissioner, Tan Sri Azam Baki, acknowledging his contributions and service as his term is set to end on May 12. The appointment of Abdul Halim as the new MACC Chief Commissioner will be effective from May 13, following the consent given by Sultan Ibrahim.

Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, confirmed that the appointment aligns with Subsection 5(1) of the MACC Act 2009 (Act 694).
