ABIM Urges Immediate Halt To Military Escalation Against Iran

Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Islamic Youth Movement (ABIM) has called for an immediate cessation of all military actions following the escalation of attacks against Iran, which risks triggering a wider conflict in West Asia. Its president Ahmad Fahmi Mohd Samsudin, in a statement today, said ABIM views with grave concern and condemns the military actions by the United States and Israel against Iran and several areas in Lebanon.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, these attacks are taking place while diplomatic channels and negotiations related to the nuclear issue are still ongoing. Ahmad Fahmi stated that military action amidst unresolved negotiations not only derails the peace process but also sends a message that armed force takes precedence over commitment to diplomacy.

He emphasized that the unilateral use of force without a collective international mandate violates the fundamental principles of the United Nations (UN), particularly Article 2(4), which prohibits the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity of any state. The escalation, he added, reflects a credibility crisis in the international system when major powers are seen as inconsistent in upholding the same principles demanded of other nations. He stressed that international law must not be selective or subject to geopolitical interests.

Ahmad Fahmi also expressed concern that the normalization of military action on the grounds of prevention or alleged future threats risks paving the way for a culture of 'pre-emptive' warfare. He emphasized that peace initiatives must not become instruments of rhetoric or tools of geopolitical legitimization and that peace leadership demands moral consistency and commitment to de-escalation, not military dominance.

He further noted that West Asia has long been a theater for major power rivalry, and another wave of war will only deepen civilian suffering, undermine regional stability, and create spillover effects on the global economy and security. In this regard, ABIM called for the immediate cessation of all military actions and reprisals, the return of all parties to the negotiating table without preconditions, and a reaffirmation of international commitment to sovereignty, the rule of law, and diplomatic conflict resolution.

Ahmad Fahmi concluded that a just peace is not born out of military dominance, but can only be achieved through justice, respect for sovereignty, and a willingness to negotiate with dignity. He reiterated that ABIM will continue to monitor developments and urge all parties to choose the path of de-escalation before the region descends into a broader and uncontrollable conflict.
