Activist Backs JPJ’s Crackdown on Employers Using Unlicensed Foreign Drivers

Kuala lumpur: A road safety activist today expressed his support for the recent decision by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) to confiscate vehicles of companies found to be using foreigners as drivers without legal driving licences or work permits. Datuk Mohammad Hisham Shafie emphasized that this move not only enforces the law but also sends a clear message that road safety is a shared responsibility that cannot be politicized or compromised.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Mohammad Hisham Shafie stated that motorist safety must remain the priority. He argued that employers who neglect the law in favor of profit should face stern and uncompromising actions. In his statement, he highlighted the dangers posed by such employers to the lives of other motorists and called for frequent enforcement actions.

Under the existing regulations, foreigners are prohibited from holding Commercial Goods Licences. Violations of this regulation constitute serious offences under the Land Public Transport Act 2010. This Act provides for the confiscation and forfeiture of vehicles if the companies are found guilty of these violations.
