AFP eyes heightened defense, security ties with Sweden

MANILA: The Armed Forces of the Philippines (A.F.P) is looking to have more partnerships with Sweden in terms of defense and security.

This came following the courtesy call of Brig. Gen. Olle Hultgren, Military Adviser of the Department for Armament and Industry of Sweden’s Ministry of Defense, on A.F.P Inspector General, Lt. Gen. Steve Crespillo at the A.F.P headquarters in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City on Wednesday.

“Lt. Gen. Crespillo expressed optimism with Brig. Gen. Hultgren about the prospects for further collaboration and looked forward to advancing shared pursuit in defense and security,” A.F.P public affairs office chief, Col. Xerxes Trinidad, said in a statement Wednesday night.

The military relationship between the two parties is anchored in the Memorandum of Understanding Concerning Cooperation in the Acquisition of Defense Materiel, signed on June 3, 2023.

This pivotal agreement has paved the way for enhanced defense collaboration, particularly in the procurement of military equipment and mate
rials.

“The courtesy visit is part of the A.F.P’s effort to establish constructive dialogue and exchange insights on further avenues of a shared commitment to promoting regional security and global peacekeeping efforts,” Trinidad said.
