Kuala lumpur: The Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) has called on the public to respect ongoing judicial processes, including the inquest into the death of Zara Qairina Mahathir. Attorney General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar emphasized that the department will not tolerate any threats or comments that could intimidate witnesses, such as those received by Dr. Jessie Hiu, a pathologist from the Forensic Department of Queen Elizabeth Hospital I.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohd Dusuki asserted, "We will not hesitate to take stern action against any party who interferes with the judicial process, including the intimidation of witnesses or the making of threats." He stressed the seriousness of actions against Dr. Jessie Hiu, whose testimony is deemed crucial for the Coroner's Court to deliver justice in the Zara Qairina inquest. "Therefore, any form of threat, negative action, or behaviour that could endanger the lives of witnesses will not be taken lightly," he added during an event at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Long Gafar.
Earlier, a 61-year-old man was detained by police at the Semporna district police headquarters for allegedly threatening Dr. Hiu. Sabah police commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun reported the arrest followed a Facebook post last Friday containing criminal threats against the pathologist.
Mohd Dusuki further commented that the investigation into the threats would be thorough and swift. He urged for patience, as the inquest involves multiple witnesses and documents, all crucial for ensuring justice for the victim and her family.
Zara Qairina, aged 13, passed away on July 17 at Queen Elizabeth Hospital after being found unconscious in a drain near her school hostel in Papar. Her remains were exhumed for a post-mortem on August 8, leading to the formal inquest announced on August 13.
In a related development, Mohd Dusuki announced an allocation of RM100,000 to upgrade SK Long Gafar, aiming to create a better learning environment for both teachers and students.
