Kuala lumpur: The Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) decision not to proceed with the appeal against the High Court's decision to acquit and discharge Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor of 17 charges for money laundering and tax evasion is in accordance with the law. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the AGC decided so after determining that the case had a weak basis.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Prime Minister Anwar addressed the commotion surrounding the Attorney General's decision to refrain from appealing in Rosmah Mansor's case. He emphasized that legal proceedings are approached without bias towards individuals based on personal affiliations. Anwar highlighted that Rosmah's case, initiated in 2018, followed the due legal process, and the judge's assessment found the case to be weak.
Anwar further elaborated that appeals are pursued in other cases where judgments provide adequate grounds. However, in Rosmah's situation, there appeared to be no basis for an appeal, hence the AGC's decision.
Anwar assured that this decision does not impact other ongoing cases, which continue unaffected. He stressed the importance of upholding constitutional supremacy and the rule of law, urging all parties, including those in opposition, government, and legal institutions, to avoid making decisions driven by political considerations.
