Hong kong: The national bowling camp achieved a significant victory by securing both the men's and women's titles at the 49th Hong Kong International Open Bowling Championships, held at the SCAA Bowling Centre. According to BERNAMA News Agency, top seeds Ahmad Muaz Mohd Fishol and Nur Syazwani Sahar emerged as champions in their respective categories during the stepladder finals. Ahmad Muaz faced a challenging start, losing the first game 189-231 to fellow Malaysian Muhammad Hafiz Zainuddin. However, he made a strong comeback in the sudden death game, winning 207-199 and thus securing the men's title. This victory was particularly important for Ahmad Muaz, as it allowed him to overcome his previous runner-up finish in the 2019 edition, where he was defeated by his teammate Muhammad Rafiq Ismail. In the women's category, Nur Syazwani Sahar ended Malaysia's long wait for a title by defeating Macau's Wong Son Ian in the stepladder finals. After losing the first game 187-209, Nur Syazwani turned the competition around by claiming a 223-211 victory in the subsequent game. Her win marks the first time a Malaysian woman has won the title since Esther Cheah's triumph in 2016. The tournament format dictated that if the top seed lost the opening game of the stepladder final, a second game would be played as a sudden-death roll-off to determine the champion.
