Ahmad Zahid Celebrates Malaysia’s Victory at Indonesia Open Badminton Championships

Kuala lumpur: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today extended his congratulations to national men's doubles pair, Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, for their recent victory at the Indonesia Open Badminton Championships.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Zahid expressed optimism that the world No. 8 duo would maintain their performance and secure further achievements on the global badminton scene. He acknowledged their comeback after finishing as runners-up at the Malaysia Masters two weeks prior, applauding their success in securing the Indonesia Open title.

Ahmad Zahid noted in a Facebook post that this victory ends an 18-year wait for Malaysia to reclaim the men's doubles crown at the Indonesia Open, a prestigious Super 1000 tournament. The last Malaysian duo to win the title were Zakry Abdul Latif and Fairuzizuan Tazari in 2008.

During the final held at Istora Senayan in Jakarta, Sze Fei and Izzuddin overcame a challenging start, rallying from a set down to defeat Indonesia's Raymond Indra and Nikolaus Joaquin with scores of 13-21, 21-18, 21-10, in a 49-minute match. This triumph marks a significant milestone for Malaysian badminton on the international stage.
