Ahmad Zahid Respects MIC’s Decision to Potentially Leave BN

Kuala lumpur: Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi expressed his respect for the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) should the party decide to exit the coalition.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Zahid, who also serves as Deputy Prime Minister and UMNO president, emphasized his non-interference stance regarding MIC's internal affairs. He stated his intention to respect any decision made by the MIC delegates and leadership during their Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Ahmad Zahid mentioned his awareness of the discussions taking place at the MIC AGM and reiterated his respect for the outcomes. He assured that any decision by MIC would be accepted with openness, as he addressed reporters after the Global Chinese Economic and Technology Summit 2025 at Wisma MCA.

During the summit, attended by MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong and the Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia, Ouyang Yujing, Ahmad Zahid highlighted the importance of maintaining a respectful and non-interventionist approach towards MIC's decision-making process.

At the party's 79th Annual General Meeting in Shah Alam, MIC delegates showed unanimous support for a motion to leave BN, leaving the timing and strategy for withdrawal to the party leadership. MIC president Tan Sri S.A. Vigneswaran indicated that the party's Central Working Committee (CWC) would deliberate further on this matter.

Vigneswaran also assured that MIC would continue to support Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim until the end of his mandate, irrespective of any political shifts.
