AI Tools Introduced to East Coast Media in Bernama Training Programme

Kuala Lumpur: A group of East Coast-based media practitioners were given the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) technology through the 'AI-Powered Content Creation and Editorial Automation' two-day training programme here, organised by the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Bernama Centre of Excellence manager Ridzuan Mohd Ghazali said a total of 25 media practitioners from Terengganu and Kelantan attended the training that kicked off yesterday. Ridzuan stated that the focus was on using AI technology for content creation, allowing media practitioners to produce creative news reports using simpler methods.

He noted that Terengganu is the fifth location for the training, following sessions in Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya, Sarawak, and Sabah. The Bernama Centre of Excellence coordinated the AI course under the National Journalists' Day (HAWANA) 2025 allocation.

Meanwhile, one of the course instructors, Dr. Normala Rahim, highlighted that the training provides insights into how participants can develop creative digital content, including producing news scripts and generating complex images and videos using AI technology. Normala, a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Informatics and Computing at Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin, observed that media practitioners in the East Coast, particularly in Terengganu, are still relatively new to exploring various AI tools.

Normala encouraged media practitioners to fully utilise AI tools to produce better and more creative work or news reports suited to current and future generations. She also emphasized the importance of upholding ethics and using AI technology to enhance work without replacing the roles of media practitioners.
