Kampot: While Malaysian Muslims commonly associate the Aidiladha celebration with the rendang dish, the Muslim community in Cambodia marks the occasion with a local traditional dish known as 'Kaw Leng Phnom' or 'Lembu Naik Bukit'. The dish, prepared using a unique cooking method, is not only a special Aidiladha delicacy but also symbolizes the collective spirit of Cambodia's minority Muslim community in carrying out the sacrificial ritual.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Hasanah Tambi, 36, met during the 'Kembara Qurban Kemboja 2025' in Kampung Keh, said it is one of the most eagerly anticipated dishes to serve the family during the festival that commemorates the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim A.S and his son, Prophet Ismail A.S. Hasanah, a teacher at Maahad Imam As-Shafiee, explained, 'This dish is prepared by slicing the meat thinly and marinating it with eggs, oyster sauce, and salt. The special pot is heated over a fire, then oil is poured into it before cooking the meat inside.'
The 'Kembara Qurban Kemboja 2025' is a humanitarian initiative spearheaded by Bank Rakyat in collaboration with strategic partners to support the international Muslim community. Maahad Imam As-Syafiee principal Zakaria Adam, 40, stated that the meat from 46 cows sacrificed through the programme would benefit approximately 20,000 Muslim residents in Kampot. He emphasized that the humanitarian delegation's visit to Cambodia is a testament to the strong bond of brotherhood between Malaysia and Cambodia.
Zakaria expressed, 'The residents and Muslims here are happy and warmly welcome this kind of assistance. Most of the residents are still poor and rarely get to eat fresh meat like what we have today.' Meanwhile, Bank Rakyat deputy chief executive officer, Nor Haimee Zakaria, mentioned that the bank is also considering expanding the initiative to other countries.
'I understand that people here rarely get to eat beef, so when we bring this programme, it brings great joy to the community,' said Nor Haimee Zakaria. Earlier, a delegation of Bank Rakyat volunteers, together with local residents, slaughtered 10 cows in Kampung Trapenh Pinh and 36 cows in Kampung Keh.
Yesterday, the media reported that Bank Rakyat launched the 'Kembara Qurban Kemboja 2025' initiative by sending a 21-member delegation to perform the animal sacrificial rituals and distribute aid to the country's Muslim community. The initiative aims to support rural communities living in poverty while expanding Bank Rakyat's community outreach efforts internationally.
