Penang: The Penang Veterinary Services Department (JPV) has successfully issued 1,056 Permit Sembelihan Luar (PSL) for the slaughter of animals outside approved slaughterhouses in preparation for this year's Hari Raya Aidiladha celebrations.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr. Saira Banu Mohamed Rejab, the director of Penang JPV, stated that the application process for the PSL began on May 21 and concluded yesterday, ahead of the festival and sacrificial worship scheduled for tomorrow, June 7. The permits cover a total of 3,363 cows, 19 buffaloes, 777 goats, 56 sheep, and five camels across five districts in Penang.
Dr. Saira Banu explained that the permissions are granted under the Animals (Control of Slaughter) Rules 2009. She emphasized the importance of adhering to legal provisions, urging all parties involved in the sacrificial rituals to ensure compliance. The key requirements include obtaining a valid permit from the state JPV, conducting slaughtering in clean areas with proper drainage facilities, and ensuring that public order is not disturbed.
As Muslims in Malaysia prepare to celebrate Aidiladha tomorrow, the Penang JPV's efforts aim to facilitate the traditional practices while maintaining regulatory standards.
