Kuala Lumpur: The Aidiladha sacrificial rite not only fulfils religious obligations but also serves as a means to strengthen ties among the people and government agencies, said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. He emphasized that the practice highlights the spirit of unity and reinforces bonds among people from various backgrounds.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi expressed his observations of a joyful atmosphere at the event, where children, RTM staff, and representatives from the Tun Abdul Razak Broadcasting and Information Institute (IPPTAR) participated in the sacrificial ritual. He conveyed his hope that such initiatives would continue to strengthen community bonds.
The event, held at Masjid Muhammadi, Angkasapuri, saw the sacrifice of 13 cows, contributed by RTM staff, members of the mosque's committee, and Fahmi himself. In addition to this, Fahmi's parliamentary office distributed 76 sacrificial cows to residents in his Lembah Pantai constituency. He mentioned that outside the constituency, another five cows were sacrificed through team efforts, reflecting strong community cooperation.
Fahmi reaffirmed his commitment to supporting similar programmes in the future, as they have proven effective in fostering unity among the people. He shared his past involvement in sacrificial rites as a Member of Parliament, finding the experience meaningful and worth continuing for its role in strengthening community ties.
Masjid Muhammadi Angkasapuri chairman Datuk Mohamed Irwan Mansor noted that over 200 individuals participated in the mosque's sacrificial event. The event included the distribution of sacrificial meat to asnaf groups in the Angkasapuri area, identified by the mosque committee. Distribution coupons were issued to eligible recipients, with meat handed over after the cutting process.
He added that the annual programme not only strengthens bonds among staff and the local community but also provides direct benefits to those in need.
