Aidilfitri: Housewife Earns Income Selling Homemade ‘Ketupat Palas’

Kampung Penghulu Jaafar: With 15 years of experience in making ketupat palas, a housewife from Kampung Penghulu Jaafar, Beseri, has turned her skills into a lucrative source of income during festive seasons. Nor Azliza Bidin, 42, said that every time Aidilfitri approaches, she is occupied with preparing customers' orders. For this year's celebrations, she received over 150 kg of ketupat palas orders.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the ketupat recipe was passed down from Nor Azliza's mother, who had been selling ketupat for the past 25 years. Nor Azliza is determined to keep her mother's legacy alive by ensuring that the ketupat is prepared just as her mother did to preserve its rich, authentic flavor for customers to enjoy.

Nor Azliza also offers a variety of ketupat, including ketupat jagung, ketupat hitam, ketupat kacang, and ketupat serunding, as well as frozen ketupat, priced between RM26 and RM30 per kg. She is assisted by two workers, who are close relatives, as her ketupat palas orders come in throughout the year, not just during festive seasons. Her customer base extends beyond the state, with orders coming from places like Johor and Kuala Lumpur.

Promoting her ketupat on social media has also been a strategic move for Nor Azliza, as her regular customers tend to order more than 25 kg of ketupat each during festive seasons. Wan Shafinas, a loyal customer for the past five years, praised the rich, creamy taste of the ketupat, which reminds her of the ones her grandmother used to make.
