Kuala lumpur: The Air Space Sandbox project will open up broader opportunities for research and innovation across multiple sectors, including logistics, mapping, smart agriculture, and security. Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) vice-chancellor Datuk Prof Dr Zaliman Sauli highlighted that this initiative aligns with the national aspiration to position Malaysia as a regional leader in aviation and drone technology.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the project aims to support the development of highly skilled talent in aeronautics and unmanned systems technology. Dr Zaliman expressed gratitude for the trust placed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the Ministry of Higher Education in UniMAP's capability to strengthen the nation's aeronautics sector.
In a recent announcement, Anwar revealed an allocation of RM16 million for the aeronautics sector while tabling Budget 2026 in the Dewan Rakyat. UniMAP is set to develop the Air Space Sandbox in Sungai Batu Pahat, Perlis, as part of this initiative.
Dr Zaliman further stated that UniMAP is committed to leading high-impact research through a collaborative approach involving academia, industry, and government, aiming to advance the nation's capabilities in this critical sector.
