AIRASIA X PASSENGER NUMBERS SOAR 42 PCT IN 2Q


KUALA LUMPUR, AirAsia X Bhd carried 880,265 passengers in the second quarter (2Q) of 2024, a 42 per cent year-on-year (yoy) surge, surpassing the 25 per cent yoy growth in its available seat per kilometre (ASK) capacity.

In a statement today, the airline said ASK capacity reached 4.39 billion this quarter, up from 3.50 billion in the same period last year.

This increase follows the carrier’s efforts over the past 12 months to reactivate aircraft and expand its network to meet growing demand.

‘The airline’s passenger load factor (PLF) charted a robust 83 per cent, up by seven percentage points yoy, buoyed by peak spring travel seasons in key markets and the Eid holiday period during the quarter under review,’ it said.

AirAsia X resumed operations to Xi’an, China in April, reinforcing its presence in this core market with five destinations, including Beijing, Chengdu, Hangzhou and Shanghai.

‘During the quarter, the airline increased flight frequencies between Kuala Lumpur and Bali to 14 times per week fro
m nine times previously, responding to strong demand for the island,’ it added.

Meanwhile, AirAsia X Thailand, an associate company, maintained a solid PLF of 84 per cent in 2Q 2024, up by six percentage points yoy.

‘During the period under review, AirAsia X Thailand also reported a seven per cent yoy increase in the number of sectors to 1,156, as more flights were launched to meet rising demand,’ the statement said.

AirAsia X’s total fleet size remained at 18 A330s as of June 30, 2024, with 16 aircraft activated and operational.

AirAsia X Thailand’s fleet size stood at seven A330s, with six aircraft activated and operational.
