Airwallex Secures BNM Approval for Comprehensive Payment Services in Malaysia

Kuala lumpur: Airwallex, a global financial and payments platform, has successfully obtained approval from Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) for its e-money issuing and Class A licences, allowing the company to introduce a complete range of payment services across the country. This development marks a significant enhancement of Airwallex's status as a fully regulated financial platform for businesses operating in Malaysia.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the approvals enable Airwallex to offer a comprehensive financial infrastructure that extends beyond mere payment solutions. This includes multi-currency accounts, foreign exchange capabilities, and support for intricate cross-border business operations, all integrated within a single platform. Such offerings are aimed at empowering companies to expand their operations across borders and function more efficiently within Malaysia's dynamic economic landscape.

Airwallex's recent licence approvals from BNM bolster its existing Class B Money Services Business licence and its role as a Registered Merchant Acquirer, indicating sustained regulatory confidence from Malaysia's central bank. This transition allows Airwallex to evolve from providing selected services to offering a full-stack solution tailored for business needs.

Furthermore, the company has expanded its presence in Malaysia by increasing its local workforce by 66 percent in 2025 and relocating to a larger office capable of accommodating over 160 employees. Airwallex Malaysia also plans to double its team size in 2026, driven by robust business momentum, including the processing of over RM2 billion in remittance transaction volume in 2025.
