AKPK Expands Financial Literacy Programme GoGiggers To Sabah, Sarawak

Kuala lumpur: The Credit Counselling and Debt Management Agency (AKPK) has expanded its financial literacy programme, GoGiggers to East Malaysia with its GoGiggers 2.0 Borneo Tour 2025. Its chief executive officer (CEO), Azaddin Ngah Tasir said the programme would benefit around 80,000 Foodpanda delivery riders in Sabah and Sarawak, and boost their financial literacy through a high-impact approach.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the programme includes delivering financial messages through interactive infographics, a 'JomBorak' podcast featuring local financial experts and influencers as well as the weekly AKPK audio broadcast 'Tanya Je Thursday'. In a statement after the officiation of the programme, it was revealed that 100 participants from Sabah and Sarawak respectively will receive financial guidance in a six-month hybrid programme beginning July.

Azaddin Ngah Tasir explained that the programme represented the agency's strong commitment to inculcating financial resilience among Malaysians, empowering individuals with the knowledge and tools to master their finances and to encourage prudent money management and credit use in the country. He emphasized that the effort supports the national aspiration towards sustainable economic development and reducing household financial vulnerability.

The current programme, supported by strategic partners Bank Simpanan Nasional and the Employees' Provident Fund (EPF), focuses specifically on Foodpanda riders. It is not merely a financial education programme but a long-term initiative aimed at building financial resilience and empowering gig workers to better face current financial challenges.

In the programme's first season, participants showed a 34.4 per cent increase in their financial wellbeing, a 13.1 per cent increase in financial knowledge and an 18.5 per cent positive displacement in financial behaviour. Notably, 74 per cent of participants took proactive measures by starting emergency savings and building a financial safety net by opening GIRO accounts and signing up for the BSN Premium Savings Certificate.

Meanwhile, Foodpanda Malaysia managing director Tan Ming Luk expressed pride in continuing their partnership with AKPK, BSN, and EPF in equipping delivery partners with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to build a secure financial future through GoGiggers 2.0 Borneo Tour 2025. He emphasized that Foodpanda believes in empowering their delivery partners beyond providing earning opportunities, supporting their long-term well-being.

"Our delivery partners are the heartbeat of the gig economy and investing in their financial resilience is not only the right thing to do but also a step towards a stronger, more inclusive national economy," Tan Ming Luk added.
