Kuala lumpur: Alam Flora Sdn Bhd (Alam Flora) is ambitiously targeting to operate up to 242 electric vehicles and equipment across its service areas by the end of 2026, as revealed by its chief executive officer, Shariman Yusuf Mohamed Zain. This initiative is set to revolutionize the company's operations towards more sustainable practices.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Shariman emphasized that the expansion of electric technology would only proceed after a comprehensive proof of concept (POC) process to ensure service quality remains uncompromised. The company has already invested approximately RM3 million in acquiring necessary assets, developing technology, and building infrastructure. Alam Flora is currently evaluating the effectiveness of electric technology through ongoing POC tests. This evaluation will guide the expansion pace based on operational needs and potential value creation, ensuring investments deliver optimal operational and environmental impact.
The announcement was made during the launch event of Alam Flora's Electric Vehicles and Equipment. As an initial step, the company plans to procure 182 electric motorcycles and 56 electric three-wheelers for use by operations supervisors and maintenance staff. For other vehicle categories, such as electric compactors, POC tests will determine their capability to meet operational demands, including multiple daily solid waste collection rounds and maintaining manufacturer-specified load capacities.
Shariman highlighted that the launch represents more than just new assets and facilities. It signifies Alam Flora's commitment to leading innovation, enhancing operational efficiency, and fostering cleaner, greener, and more sustainable urban environments.
In support, Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp) chairman Hee Loy Sian remarked that Alam Flora's adoption of green technology-based cleaning assets positions the solid waste management sector as a leader in green technology adoption. This initiative is expected to reduce carbon emissions, noise pollution, and improve energy efficiency. Additionally, the modernization of operations aims to boost work productivity while ensuring the safety and comfort of frontline personnel.
