Allegations Not True, Thai PM Assures Anwar Ahead Of Malaysia Visit

Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has received a call from his Thai counterpart Anutin Charnvirakul to personally reassure him that allegations circulating regarding Malaysia's role in the Thailand-Cambodia border issue were unfair and not true. 'Thailand Prime Minister called me this morning (Monday) to reassure me that what is alleged is not true,' Anwar said, reiterating the fact that Putrajaya only played a facilitator role in the border issue.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar highlighted that Anutin considered the criticism against Malaysia unfair, acknowledging Malaysia's role as a facilitator rather than a decision-maker in the matter. Anutin assured Anwar that the decisions were solely made by Thailand and Cambodia, emphasizing the collaborative nature of the discussions and dismissing any misconceptions about Malaysia's involvement.

Anutin is scheduled to make an official visit to Malaysia on Nov 26, during which he and Anwar are expected to hold a bilateral meeting to discuss ways to further enhance Thailand-Malaysia cooperation. This visit underscores the ongoing commitment of both countries to strengthen their bilateral relations and address common challenges.

Meanwhile, Anwar also criticised certain groups in Malaysia for being 'too excited' to condemn the government despite Malaysia's role in the Thailand-Cambodia border issue being clearly defined. He expressed concern over the premature judgments made by some politicians, urging a more informed understanding of the collaborative efforts involving several ministries and security agencies, including the Foreign Affairs, Home Affairs and Defence Ministries, and the Armed Forces leadership.

Following the bilateral meeting with Anutin, Anwar announced plans to head to Sabah, signaling continued efforts to engage with regional partners and address national issues.
