Along Cham Granted DNAA for Cannabis Possession, Faces New Charges in Magistrate’s Court

Kuala Lumpur: Actor and comedian Muhammad Nizamuddin Ahmad, widely recognized as Along Cham, expressed his relief by performing a 'sujud syukur' (prostration of gratitude) after the Sessions Court granted him a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) on a cannabis possession charge.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the 41-year-old, known for his participation in the Raja Lawak reality show, was subsequently re-charged in the Magistrate's Court with two counts: possession and administration of drugs. In today's proceedings at the Sessions Court, Judge Ahmad Fuad Othman issued a DNAA for the initial charge against Muhammad Nizamuddin.

"The charge, under Section 39A (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (ADB) 1952, is DNAA. Subsequently, you will be re-charged in the Magistrate's Court, and the charges against you will be amended," stated Judge Ahmad Fuad Othman. Earlier, deputy public prosecutor Nurul Faraheen Yahya requested the case be transferred to the Magistrate's Court for charges under Section 39A (1) of the ADB 1952, following a chemical analysis report.

On December 20 of the previous year, Muhammad Nizamuddin faced charges at the Sessions Court for allegedly possessing cannabis weighing 58.23 grams at his Cyberjaya residence on December 14, 2024, at 3.10 pm. Today, in the Magistrate's Court, he pleaded not guilty to both charges of possessing cannabis and administering drugs.

The first charge accused the comedian of possessing 49.61 grams of cannabis at a Cyberjaya residence on December 14, 2024, at 3.10 pm, framed under Section 6 ADB 1952 and punishable under 39(a)(1) of the same statute. The second charge alleged administering a dangerous drug, suspected to be tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), on the same date at 10 pm at the Sepang district police headquarters.

This charge, framed under Section 15(1)(a) ADB 1952 and read with 38B of the same law, carries penalties including a fine not exceeding RM5,000, imprisonment up to two years, and supervision ranging from two to three years. Deputy public prosecutor Mohamed Wafi Husain proposed an RM8,000 bail for both charges, while defense lawyer Kamal Hisham Jaafar appealed for a reduced bail of RM4,000 on several grounds.

Magistrate Muhammad Bukhori Md Ruslan set the bail at RM3,500 for one charge and RM1,500 for the other, with one surety per charge. The court scheduled April 7 for the mention and submission of the chemical report.
