Kota kinabalu: Naim Kurniawan Moktar has expressed his gratitude to everyone, especially national and Sabah leaders, who conveyed their condolences following the passing of his father, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin. He also thanked Sabah Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajii Noor, and other leaders who paid their respects during the funeral.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Naim expressed heartfelt thanks on behalf of his extended family, highlighting that many attended the funeral regardless of political differences. He conveyed his appreciation for the support received during this difficult time. Naim mentioned his gratitude for the peaceful manner in which his father passed away, noting the significance of it happening on a Friday night, which he described as serene and tranquil.
When questioned about continuing his father's political legacy, Naim stated that the decision would rest with the people and party leadership. He emphasized his readiness to accept any responsibility, should the party leadership find him suitable, acknowledging his long-standing service to the communities in Kinabatangan, Lamag, Sukau, and beyond.
Bung Moktar, aged 66, passed away at a private hospital in Kota Kinabalu at 1.46 am. He had retained the Lamag state seat in the 17th Sabah State Election on November 29.
