Anti-Bullying Tribunal Bill Set for December Parliament Tabling: Azalina

Kuala lumpur: The Anti-Bullying Tribunal Bill is anticipated to be tabled in Parliament this December, as announced by Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Azalina revealed that the Cabinet will review a paper detailing the Bill's draft as early as November. This document will convey the insights and findings derived from nationwide anti-bullying town hall sessions. She emphasized the commitment of the MADANI government to introduce this legislation within the current Parliamentary session.

Azalina mentioned that the government is evaluating the best mechanisms to address bullying across different levels. She highlighted the possibility of establishing two distinct tribunals-one for individuals aged 18 and above, or open tribunals-or the alternative of creating two separate entities. The focus is to determine whether a tribunal would offer a more efficient resolution compared to a court, given that tribunals typically expedite processes.

She underscored the significance of the town hall sessions, noting that student input is vital for the effective implementation of the Anti-Bullying Bill. Azalina emphasized the importance of integrating the perspectives of children, as they will be the primary users of the law, which could also foster a better understanding of bullying.

In a recent session, 130 students from the Ministry of Education, representing Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Selangor, and Negeri Sembilan, contributed their insights for the Bill's formation. Future town hall meetings are planned with the Ministry of Higher Education to gather opinions from students aged 18 and above.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stated that Azalina had been tasked with presenting a proposal paper to the Cabinet on the Anti-Bullying Tribunal Bill within six months.
