Anutin to Visit Malaysia for ASEAN Summit Participation

Kuala lumpur: Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul is set to make an official visit to Malaysia and participate in the 47th ASEAN Summit and related Summits from October 25 to 28. This marks his first visit to Malaysia and his second official overseas engagement since assuming office on September 7.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the visit is at the invitation of Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, highlighting the importance of Malaysia as a neighboring nation with shared interests and interconnected prosperity. Government spokesperson Siripong Angkasakulkiat stated that the two prime ministers will engage in bilateral discussions aimed at enhancing cooperation in areas such as cross-border connectivity in transport, trade and investment, tourism, transboundary challenges, and people-to-people relations.

Siripong further noted that during the Summit, Anutin will focus on four key priorities: promoting regional peace and stability, building a secure and resilient ASEAN Community, driving inclusive economic growth, and advancing sustainability transformation. The visit represents a significant opportunity to bolster Thailand and Malaysia's relations, particularly in border security and economic development, while also enhancing regional cooperation within the ASEAN framework.

Additionally, the Thai prime minister is scheduled to meet with key leaders under the ASEAN framework, including representatives from the United States, China, Japan, and India, along with holding bilateral meetings with several other world leaders on the Summit's sidelines.

The 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, themed 'Inclusivity and Sustainability', will occur from October 26 to 28, featuring participation from over 20 prominent world leaders. This includes the 10 ASEAN member states and key external dialogue partners from the United States, China, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, India, Brazil, and South Africa. The summit is anticipated to be the largest since its inception in 1976.
