Alor setar: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor have agreed to end their personal dispute in the defamation suit proceedings at the Alor Setar High Court today.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Prime Minister and the Kedah Menteri Besar issued a joint statement revealing their decision to amicably resolve the matter. They cited concerns over the implications and legal costs involved, and emphasized the need to focus on more pressing national interests.
The statement detailed that Muhammad Sanusi has withdrawn the statements made against Anwar on November 13, 2022, in a gesture of good faith and unconditionally. He has also committed not to repeat the statements that were the basis of the legal action. In return, Anwar has agreed to withdraw the civil suit against Muhammad Sanusi without any costs or the liberty to file again.
The leaders highlighted that the withdrawal of the suit aims to promote goodwill and maintain respectful relations between the parties. They expressed their appreciation to Judge Dr. John Lee Kien How @ Mohd Johan Lee for his mediation efforts, which facilitated the settlement.
Anwar and Muhammad Sanusi also thanked the court officers for their professionalism and discretion. They hope that the resolution will be accepted and respected by all parties, avoiding any disruption to the nation's peace, unity, or harmony.
Anwar's counsel, Datuk S N Nair, confirmed the settlement when contacted by BERNAMA. The defamation suit was initially filed on December 13, 2022, concerning remarks made during the 'Jelajah PN Best Tambun' campaign.
