Kuala lumpur: The government today announced the implementation of work-from-home (WFH) arrangements for the public sector and government-linked companies (GLCs) effective April 15 as a proactive measure to address the global energy crisis.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the decision, reached at the Cabinet meeting, aims to reduce fuel consumption and ensure the sustainability of the country's energy supply, which has been affected by the conflict in West Asia. He noted that tensions involving Israel, the United States, and Iran have disrupted global supply chains. Despite these disruptions, Malaysia has managed to maintain resilience by keeping the price of RON95 petrol at RM1.99 per litre.

Anwar emphasized that even if the situation improves slightly, complacency is not an option. He warned that any society, whether a family or a nation, that becomes too comfortable and takes matters lightly risks facing greater challenges. Therefore, he urged a realistic response to the current circumstances and adherence to the government's plans.

The government is mitigating the impact of the global energy crisis through the People's Support Initiative, allocating an additional RM4 billion per month to absorb rising global oil costs and prevent sudden price increases from burdening the public. Additionally, to enhance resource management efficiency, the quota for the BUDI MADANI 95 fuel subsidy has been set at 200 litres per month, effective immediately, with daily limits on subsidised diesel refuelling enforced in Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan.

The prime minister also highlighted the government's efforts to diversify energy sources to protect the country's energy supply. He mentioned the diversification of oil and gas import sources from other countries, supported by the strong performance of the national oil company, Petronas, in managing operations effectively.
