Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) has been successfully restored following issues related to past negligence and mismanagement.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar emphasized the importance of Tabung Haji as a key Islamic financial institution in managing the haj pilgrimage for Malaysians. He expressed gratitude for the early detection of the problems and the subsequent restoration of the institution, asserting his confidence in its continued excellence. Anwar made these remarks during his speech at the opening of Maybank's new headquarters at Menara Merdeka Maybank.
The Cabinet has agreed to release the full report by the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into Tabung Haji, which was made public on Wednesday. This report scrutinized the management and operations of TH from 2014 to 2020.
Anwar highlighted that financial institutions worldwide, including those in Malaysia, have historically faced challenges related to integrity, governance, and management. He remarked that Maybank's challenge is not only to deliver strong financial performance but also to maintain its integrity and uphold professional standards.
As both Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Anwar called on Malaysians to work towards preserving peace and stability while focusing on a humane economy as the nation nears its 70th independence anniversary. He stressed the importance of economic fundamentals and the pivotal role of financial institutions in improving the well-being of the rakyat through collective efforts.
