Anwar Criticizes Spread of Misinformation on Oil Price Hike

Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has warned that the spread of inaccurate information regarding oil price increases linked to the West Asian conflict is misleading the public and obscuring the true situation. He criticised certain quarters, including politicians, for making irresponsible statements that confuse rather than inform.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar expressed his concerns about politicians who make hasty comments, offering half-truths and portraying them as absolute facts. He emphasized that these individuals possess only a partial understanding but attempt to present their views as definitive. Anwar made these remarks while speaking at the Transport Ministry's monthly assembly, attended by Transport Minister Anthony Loke and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.

Anwar stressed the importance of grounding opinions in accurate facts, stating that everyone has the right to express opinions but must do so responsibly. He underscored that while criticism and counter-views are welcome, judgments should not be based on incorrect or misleading information.

Furthermore, Anwar took issue with attempts by some parties to distort facts by framing them using religious arguments. He warned that such tactics reflect a superficial understanding cloaked in religious references, which might appear convincing but ultimately mislead the public.

Previously, PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang alleged that the government was deceiving the public following the rise in oil prices in Peninsular Malaysia. He questioned why similar measures were not implemented in Sabah and Sarawak, arguing that there was no strong justification for the price increase, especially since Malaysia is not directly involved in Iran's blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
