Anwar Ibrahim Encourages Malaysian Youth to Excel in AI and Emerging Technologies

Kuala Lumpur:Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on Malaysia's youth to become proficient in emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum computing, to fuel the nation's economic growth.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar emphasized the need for young people to explore new fields of knowledge, ensuring that the country's technological advancements align with its values, ethics, and principles. He highlighted the necessity of digital transformation driven by AI, warning that falling behind in development could weaken the economy.

Speaking at the Youth Economic Forum 2026 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Anwar shared his recent discussions in Shanghai with Chinese Premier Li Qiang, reiterating the importance of mastering AI to prevent it from dominating society. Key figures in attendance included Youth and Sports Minister Mohammed Taufiq Johari and MIDA chairman Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz.

Anwar stressed the importance of balancing technological progress with ethics, morality, and human values. He urged young people to pursue technological and scientific advancements without allowing AI to erode these fundamental aspects. The government, he stated, is committed to enhancing education quality and language proficiency to equip young Malaysians with diverse linguistic skills.

Encouraging critical thinking, Anwar advised youth not to become blindly loyal to individuals or political parties but to focus on truth, justice, knowledge, and integrity. He expressed confidence that with this mindset, Malaysia could transform into a vibrant, progressive, and successful nation within a decade.
