Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today paid a visit to his longtime friend Syed Hamid Ali during a stop in Batu Pahat, Johor. In a Facebook post, Anwar shared that Syed Hamid, also known as Pak Hamid, was a significant figure in the student movement during their time at University Malaya.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar highlighted Syed Hamid's role in advocating for social justice and the rights of the underprivileged, describing him as an outspoken leader. During their meeting, the two friends reminisced about their past, including a memorable incident involving a red jacket that Syed Hamid lent to Anwar for an overseas conference, which was later lost in Tok Kun.
Anwar expressed admiration for Syed Hamid's unwavering dedication to his cause and appreciated the wisdom and guidance he shared over the years. He extended his prayers for the health and well-being of Syed Hamid and his family.
Additionally, Anwar conveyed greetings from his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, and received a memoir titled "Kenangan Seorang Patriot," authored by Syed Hamid. The memoir details Syed Hamid's journey as an activist, former student leader, and advocate for social justice.
