Anwar, Prabowo Commit to Enhanced Diplomatic Initiatives on West Asia Crisis

Kuala lumpur: Malaysia and Indonesia have agreed to intensify diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the conflict in West Asia, protect civilian lives, and open space for negotiations towards a peaceful and lasting resolution, said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The Prime Minister stated that this commitment was made during his meeting with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto during a special visit to Indonesia.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the meaningful meeting with President Prabowo opened constructive space to find common ground in addressing the West Asia conflict, which is impacting global energy security and economic stability. The one-day visit marked Anwar's first trip to Jakarta this year, following an invitation extended by Prabowo during a phone conversation between the two leaders on March 23.

Amid growing global uncertainty, Malaysia and Indonesia emphasized the need for strengthened regional cohesion to preserve peace, ensure stability, and enhance economic resilience for the well-being of the people. During their two-hour meeting, both leaders highlighted the importance of maintaining the continuity of global supply chains and strategic trade routes, particularly the Strait of Hormuz.

Anwar shared updates on engagements with fellow international leaders as part of efforts to express solidarity, coordinate views, and assess global impacts, especially concerning energy and regional security. He reiterated Malaysia's firm stance on rejecting violence, upholding international law, and urging all parties to return to the path of peace.

Tensions in West Asia have escalated since the United States and Israel launched joint strikes against Iran on February 28. Tehran retaliated with drone and missile attacks targeting Israel and several neighboring countries hosting United States military assets, further affecting global market stability and the aviation sector.
