Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Sheikh al-Azhar al-Sharif Prof Dr Ahmad al-Tayyeb discussed the continuation of dakwah efforts and Islamic studies to expand religious understanding for the benefit of the entire community.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the matter was discussed over the phone after the prominent cleric contacted Anwar to inquire about his health and offer prayers following his recovery from surgery. Anwar expressed his gratitude for the prayers and thoughts, informing the cleric that the surgery had gone smoothly and his recovery was progressing well. The conversation also touched on the continuation of dakwah and study efforts to enhance the understanding of Islam. Anwar emphasized that the views and guidance of Sheikh al-Azhar al-Sharif would remain an important guideline in upholding Islamic knowledge and bringing blessings to the community.
Anwar also recalled Sheikh al-Azhar al-Sharif's previous visit to Malaysia, which left a significant impression on all Muslims in the country. He expressed hope for a future meeting in Cairo or Kuala Lumpur to continue their efforts in da'wah and knowledge expansion for the community's benefit.
In another message, Anwar mentioned his conversation with the Secretary-General of the Council of Muslim Elders, Mohamed Abdelsalam, who inquired about his health and offered prayers for his recovery. Anwar, in turn, asked about the health of Mohamed's wife, who is currently receiving hospital treatment, and prayed for her speedy recovery. The conversation also covered Sheikh al-Azhar al-Sharif's desire to revisit Malaysia and explore new endeavors to strengthen Malaysia's relationship with al-Azhar and promote a simple, free, and authoritative Islam.
Anwar expressed his appreciation for the friendship, support, and trust shown by Mohamed Abdelsalam and Sheikh al-Azhar al-Sharif. He also acknowledged the appreciation given to his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, for her steadfastness, loyalty, and sacrifice throughout his struggles. Anwar concluded by expressing his hope that all these endeavors and cooperation would continue to be strengthened for the benefit of the people and universal well-being.
