Anwar Refrains from Disciplinary Action Against Dissenting PKR MPs, Emphasizes Unity

Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has no intention of taking action against several Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Members of Parliament (MPs) who have expressed differing views on certain issues, according to PKR Communications Director Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. Speaking to reporters after a closed-door meeting between Anwar and PKR Selangor leaders today, Fahmi highlighted that the Prime Minister, who is also PKR President, urged party members and branch leaders to respect those differing opinions and work together to strengthen the party. According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi stated that Anwar has made it clear that he will not penalize MPs who hold differing opinions, emphasizing their right to express their views. Anwar has also called on branch chiefs and party members to understand and accept this stance to maintain unity within the party. Fahmi, also the Communications Minister, noted that during the meeting, Anwar advised newly elected branch leaders to include individuals from differe nt camps, including those who lost in the recent party elections, to build a cohesive team for the party's overall strength. Additionally, Fahmi mentioned that Anwar plans to finalize the appointment of State Leadership Council (MPN) Chairs by the end of this month. He also instructed the party machinery to begin mobilizing in August to enhance grassroots support. Addressing concerns over the appointment of the new Chief Justice, Anwar clarified that the process adhered strictly to the Federal Constitution. The list of nominees was prepared by the Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC) and submitted to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Conference of Rulers. Anwar only provided advice to the King following consultations with the Conference of Rulers, ensuring compliance with constitutional procedures. Fahmi also noted that Anwar welcomed critiques from institutions like the Malaysian Bar and Bersih on the judicial appointments. Anwar emphasized the importance of maintaining the judiciary's independence from legislative and executive interference. Today's meeting, which lasted nearly an hour, was attended by several senior PKR leaders, including vice-presidents Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and Datuk Seri R. Ramanan, PKR Youth Chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim, and Women's Chief Fadhlina Sidek.
