Apam Seller Fined RM11,000 for Uploading Obscene Video on Social Media

Kuala lumpur: An apam seller was fined RM11,000 by the Sessions Court here today after pleading guilty to uploading an obscene video on social media two years ago. Judge Izralizam Sanusi imposed the fine on Muhammad Azmirul Iman Ulul Azmi, 23, with a default sentence of six months in jail.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the judge also issued a stern warning to Muhammad Azmirul Iman, indicating that a heavier penalty could be imposed in the future as he now has a criminal record. The charge against him was for knowingly initiating the transmission of obscene video content via the X application under the username 'a@sweetierosieee' on March 29, 2024, at 11.32 pm, with the intent to harass others.

The explicit content was viewed by a man on April 4, 2024, at 11 am, in a condominium unit in Desa Pandan, off Jalan Kampung Pandan. Disturbed by the material, the viewer lodged a complaint with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) through its online portal.

The charge was brought under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which stipulates a maximum fine of RM50,000 or imprisonment of up to one year, or both. Additionally, there is a further fine of RM1,000 for each day the offence continues after conviction.

Upon receiving the complaint, police and MCMC officers conducted an inspection at the Mentakab Police Station, Pahang, on February 4, 2025. They seized Muhammad Azmirul Iman's mobile phone, and forensic analysis confirmed that the X account was accessed using this device, recovering the obscene video in question.

Earlier in court, MCMC prosecuting officer Nur Nazhzilah Mohammad Hashim advocated for an appropriate sentence to serve as a deterrent, emphasizing the harmful impact of easily accessible pornographic content, especially on children.

Muhammad Azmirul Iman, who was unrepresented, appealed for leniency, citing it as his first offence. He expressed remorse and pledged not to repeat the act.
