Hulu terengganu: The Aring 8-Kenyir-Kuala Jeneris road in Hulu Terengganu has been closed for all vehicles starting today, following the collapse of a culvert wall due to land erosion and strong water currents.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Hulu Terengganu Police Chief Supt Sharudin Abd Wahab reported that the road had been partially compromised since May, but it completely collapsed at 7 am today. The closure has been deemed necessary to ensure safety and to facilitate repair work in the affected area.
The road is critical as it serves as the only access route to the Sungai Deka Elephant Conservation Centre. The closure could impact fuel supplies for the electric generator at the center, creating an urgent need for road repairs. "The road is unsafe for all vehicles and needs urgent repairs," Supt Sharudin said during a call with Bernama.
In response to the situation, concrete barriers and warning signs have been installed, and road users are advised to take an alternative route via Sungai Tong, Jerteh, Kuala Krai, and Aring 8. The police chief urged the public to avoid the area for safety reasons and announced increased police patrols at the site to ensure compliance and security.
