Perlis: Efforts to preserve and elevate the arts and culture of Malaysia's diverse communities must be seen as an integral part of fostering national unity, said National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang. He emphasized that this aligns with the National Unity Policy and the National Cultural Policy, which focus on building a community with a strong sense of identity, mutual respect, and appreciation for Malaysia's diversity.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Aaron highlighted the inseparability of unity from arts and culture, viewing them as essential elements of identity and effective means of bringing people together. He shared these insights while officiating the Satu Suara, Seribu Warna Programme during Semarak Perpaduan Perlis at the State Forestry Department Multipurpose Hall.
Aaron stated that Malaysia's diversity is both a strength and a unique aspect of the nation. The government remains committed to preserving the country's artistic and cultural heritage, ensuring its appreciation by future generations. Institutions such as the Malaysian Museum Department, the National Library of Malaysia, and the National Archives of Malaysia play crucial roles in safeguarding the nation's history, knowledge, and cultural treasures.
Furthermore, Aaron stressed the importance of providing the younger generation with opportunities to experience and develop art and culture, especially in ways that resonate with the digital era. He advocated for the use of technology and social media to keep Malaysian arts and culture relevant in young people's lives.
He also acknowledged the significant role of NGOs in this endeavor, highlighting organizations like Pertubuhan Nadi Sihat as vital bridges between the government and the community. These NGOs possess grassroots networks, creativity, and flexibility in engaging with the community.
In conjunction with the event, a statement from the Ministry of National Unity revealed that 33,548 Tabika Perpaduan children participated in a nationwide coloring competition, earning a place in the Malaysia Book of Records. The programme marks the third year of collaboration between Nadi Sihat and the Ministry in promoting unity through various community programmes.
