ASEAN 2025: Sustainable Batik Designs To Be Showcased

KUALA LUMPUR, Batik designs produced through the Sustainable Batik Design Competition, organised by the Securities Commission of Malaysia (SC) and MyCreative Ventures Group, will be showcased at ASEAN 2025.

SC corporate resources director Meha Kasbun said in addition to the opportunity to be highlighted on the global stage, the competition can also promote sustainable batik practices among players in the batik industry by highlighting more environmentally friendly manufacturing.

“The competition, launched on Sept 13, was held to promote and showcase the richness of our batik heritage in line with the call and aspirations of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim,” he said today when he was a guest on the ‘Apa Khabar Malaysia’ programme produced by Bernama TV.

Meanwhile, Mycreative Ventures business development and strategic communications assistant vice-president Rafiezi Tahir, who appeared on the same programme, said the initiative to hold a Sustainable Batik Design Competition was aimed at encouraging
the use of natural dyes among batik designers.

“Awareness related to the sustainability of batik among the community including batik designers is still low. We still use batik dyes that have chemical elements. So, when there is an initiative like this, we can help promote and encourage the use of natural dyes,” he said.

Rafiezi said the competition, in conjunction with Malaysia Day, is still open till Oct 31 to all Malaysians, aged 18 and above. Each interested party can only submit one entry.

The first prize winner will receive RM30,000 in cash and a trophy, while RM15,000 and a trophy will go to the second place winner, and RM10,000 and a trophy to the third place winner.

He also said interested parties can visit the website https://www.sc.com.my/batiklestari or www.sc.com.my/batiklestari for more information.
