Kuala Lumpur: Local authorities in Selangor must ensure that all facilities and cleanliness throughout the state are at their best in preparation for the ASEAN 2025 Chairmanship, says Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari. Speaking during his 2025 New Year's address, Amirudin said Selangor served as the first point of entry for foreign delegations to Malaysia, and it was the state's responsibility to leave a positive impression.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Amirudin highlighted the importance of Selangor in hosting various meetings at different levels during the ASEAN Chairmanship. Selangor will host some of these meetings, and even in the absence of pre-meetings, the state serves as the first entry point for international delegations arriving via Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang, or Port Klang by sea.
Amirudin emphasized the need for well-maintained infrastructure, stating that the first impression of Malaysia should not be marred by uneven roads or poorly maintained signboards and landscapes. He noted that the condition of the state impacts the overall image of Malaysia as well.
In conjunction with Visit Selangor Year (TMS) 2025, Amirudin called on local authorities to showcase the state's unique identity. He also urged accommodation providers, resorts, and eateries to avoid exploiting the occasion by excessively hiking prices.
