Kuala Lumpur: The Media Registration for ASEAN Finance Ministers' and Central Bank Governors' Meeting (AFMGM) and Related Meetings to be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre is opened now. Media representatives are invited to register for accreditation online from March 17 to April 4, 2025, to cover the event. Media representatives can register at https://aseanfinance2025.mof.gov.my/.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) deputy governor Datuk Marzunisham Omar previously stated that the central bank will collaborate with its ASEAN counterparts to promote the use of local currencies in facilitating trade within the region. He emphasized the importance of strengthening inter-regional trade and investment flows as part of ASEAN-Malaysia's chairmanship focus for the year.

Marzunisham highlighted the aim of building a more inclusive financial system to benefit people across the region. He also mentioned the financial sector's role in financing major sustainable projects. The upcoming meetings will feature panel discussions on financial sector innovation and its potential to accelerate trade and investment flows.

Progress has been noted in areas such as QR payment and payment connectivity, which boost tourism, and efforts to encourage trade settlement in local currencies, particularly with Indonesia and Thailand.
