ASEAN Foreign Ministers Emphasize Cooperation and Synergy at 58th Meeting

Kuala lumpur: The 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM) took place on 9 July 2025, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, under the theme 'Inclusivity and Sustainability'. The meeting was chaired by Malaysia, highlighting ASEAN's focus on collaboration and sustainable development.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Malaysia's Prime Minister, The Honourable Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim, opened the meeting. He emphasized ASEAN's strength in cooperation and its ability to engage purposefully. Prime Minister Anwar highlighted ASEAN's approach to charting its course with coherence and intention, focusing on the principle of Centrality. This principle is viewed as essential for maintaining ASEAN's role as a primary dialogue anchor and ensuring continued engagement with external partners.

Prime Minister Anwar called for increased synergy across various sectors in line with the ASEAN 2045: Our Shared Future vision. He proposed that ASEAN Foreign Ministers and ASEAN Economic Ministers coordinate their efforts to address challenges. Additionally, he stressed the importance of strengthening ASEAN's internal foundations by boosting intra-ASEAN trade and investment and advancing sectoral integration.
