Kuala lumpur: ASEAN member states must now shift their collective focus toward the implementation of the ASEAN Vision 2045: Our Shared Future, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said today.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, in his opening remarks at the 37th Meeting of the ASEAN Coordinating Council (ACC), Mohamad emphasized that the Vision, which builds on three foundational pillars of the ASEAN Community - the Political-Security Community (APSC), the Economic Community (AEC), and the Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) - is supported by four strategic plans. This provides a clear, cohesive framework to guide the region's transformation over the next two decades.
Mohamad praised the tireless work of the High-Level Task Force and the dedication of all officials across the three pillars, as well as the ASEAN Connectivity Coordinating Committee, for making this vision possible. He emphasized the importance of focusing on implementation to advance a people-centred ASEAN Community that is inclusive, sustainable, and resilient.
He highlighted ASEAN's recent achievements, such as the full admission of Timor-Leste as the bloc's 11th member and the acceleration of the ASEAN Power Grid initiative, showcasing the region's continued resolve to deliver tangible benefits to its peoples.
The Foreign Minister noted that fact-finding missions by the APSC, AEC, and ASCC were key in shaping a comprehensive Roadmap for Timor-Leste's membership. He pointed out that crucial steps have been taken on regional sustainability and energy cooperation, particularly through the ASEAN Power Grid, which strengthens connectivity, advances energy transition, and supports ASEAN member states' commitment to a greener future.
Mohamad stressed that while these achievements highlight the strength of coordination mechanisms, the ACC must remain central to cross-pillar coherence. He warned that the challenges faced are increasingly complex and interconnected, requiring a whole-of-ASEAN approach to deliver meaningful results.
The ACC is part of a series of meetings held ahead of the 47th ASEAN Summit, where regional leaders gather to discuss key political, economic, and security issues under the theme 'Inclusivity and Sustainability.' Malaysia is hosting the summit as part of its 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship, concluding this year.
